Paul Coogle Guest Speaker

 

Dodge County High School Senior, Paul Coogle, was the guest speaker at Dodge Connection-Communities In Schools of Dodge County, Inc.'s collaborative meeting in November.  Paul spoke to the collaborative about his recent honor, being named as a member of the 2011-2012 Student Advisory Council by State School Superintendent, Dr. John Barge.  Paul is an active member in Dodge Connection-CIS of Dodge County's Youth Advocacy Leadership (YAL) team.  Pictured are: Dr. Melinda Dennis, Superintendent, Debbie Connell, Executive Director, Coogle, and Cecil Barden, Chairman


 

Mission

The Youth Advocacy Leadership (YAL) will introduce, develop and nurture leadership skills among youth in Dodge County by providing experiential mentoring and leadership experiences that enhance self-esteem and encourage involvement in all levels of community life.

 

Focus

YAL’s focus is on untapped potential. YAL seeks students who have not had the opportunity to demonstrate their full leadership potential. Candidates for the program should:

1. Be enrolled in Middle/High School.
2. Have an interest in developing their leadership skills.
3. Desire to learn more about the Dodge County community.

Vision

YAL believes local youth must see a community that is welcoming, nurturing, and vital and that provides ample opportunity for youth to participate in meaningful community change, to network, and to grow as individuals. The YAL leadership development program is aimed at:

1. Helping youth learn the skills necessary to help create a community where they want to invest their futures.
2. Developing committed leaders by encouraging active community participation.

 

Goals

The goals of the YAL Program are:

  • To develop initiative and leadership.

  • To promote healthy and positive life choices.

  • To provide experience in living and working together.

  • To serve the school and community.

  • To cooperate with the school principal.

  • To prepare for useful citizenship.
